Summary: 

Responsible for supervision of all legal programs including the delivery of free, confidential, trauma-informed civil legal services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking. Provides programmatic oversight and supervision of legal staff while also maintaining a limited direct service caseload as needed to support program operations and client access to services. Serves as a member of the program and agency leadership team.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

60% - Administration

  • Coordinate and provide oversite for WCA legal service provision within the organization including planning and evaluation
  • Coordinate with assurance staff to consistently evaluate program quality
  • Execute program development activities to include research of new models, development of program materials, and staff training
  • Coordinate with data collection staff to monitor trends and make data-driven adjustments
  • Execute program-related portions of WCA strategic plan
  • Assist in preparation and budgeting for legal program
  • Supervise interviewing, corrective action, and performance evaluation processes for legal staff
  • Provide required reports for grant-funded activities
  • Ensure compliance with applicable ethical rules and professional standards
  • Other duties as assigned

 

25% - Client Service:

  • Provide supervision and consultation to legal staff to ensure effective service provision
  • Maintain client files
  • Provide limited direct legal representation and carry a caseload as needed to support program capacity, continuity of services, and compliance requirements
  • Work with other programs to integrate legal service provision
  • Other duties as assigned

 

5% - Job Training and Meetings

  • Provide training for staff and volunteers
  • Attend required internal meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

 

5% - Community Engagement

  • Serve as agency liaison with funding sources and community partners
  • Represent WCA in relevant professional and community meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

 

5% - Program Support and Professional Development

  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Participate in continuing legal education and professional development
  • Support special projects and initiatives as assigned

 

Education and Experience:

WCA also strongly values the personal, lived experience of individuals from all backgrounds.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.)
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Nebraska
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible legal practice, including experience in supervision, program development, complex case management, or independent representation of clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis management, intervention and resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams
  • Excellent interpersonal and employee coaching skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse staff and client populations
  • Understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and stalking issues
  • Strong problem-solving and independent decision-making skills
  • High standards of integrity, accountability, and confidentiality
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and manage confidential information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Conflict resolution and collaboration skills
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, and database systems
  • Ability to meet the operational, scheduling, and travel requirements of the position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing direct service in the human service field
  • Experience representing clients in family law matters
  • Experience representing clients in protection order matters
  • Experience representing clients in matters related to human trafficking
  • Fluency in Spanish
